Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare progressive disease of the lungs that prior to 2015, no effective therapy was available. IPF is a distinct entity from other interstitial and fibrotic diseases of the lungs, some of which range from completely mild self-limited to progressive and end-stage fibrosis. Diagnosing IPF requires focused expertise in order to provide appropriate care.

We at Pulmonary and Sleep Specialists of Northeast Georgia utilize the multi-disciplinary approach that involves different specialists in making the diagnosis and we send all lung biopsies for a second opinion at one of the nation’s most recognized centers for confirmation. Our providers are on top of all the implications of this disease and continually seek out updated therapy to offer to our patients.
